Millennium Park:
UN Studio Pavilion

The first of two pavilions created for the Daniel Burnham Centennial in Chicago’s Millennium Park was designed by Amsterdam Architect Ben van Berkel of UN Studio. The fixtures were placed in the surface of the sculpture, and Dear collaborated with interactive lighting and projection artist Daniel Sauter to install a trigger mechanism that lights up on contact. As people walk in and around the sculpture, colors glow beneath their feet, creating a personal relationship between the viewer and the art.

This critically acclaimed installation is perhaps Tracey Dear’s most innovative to date. “Both of the pavilions were so staggeringly beautiful and striking. It was a wonderful experience to work with such talented and forward thinking architects,” said Dear.
